Applying to Non-Research Grants Workshop Series

Applying to Non-Research Grants introduces Arts graduate students to strategies for applying to non-research grants. Each workshop will introduce students to a specific aspect of grant applications through examples, exercises, and Q&A. Students are invited to bring their own drafts-in-progress, a grant application they’re hoping to apply to, or work from our provided examples.

This series covers topics like:

  • Project proposals
  • Liaising with community partners
  • Funding your creative projects
  • Budgets and project timelines
  • Writing to the grant criteria
  • Identifying eligible grants

These workshops are facilitated by Heidi Rennert (Grants Editor).

F.A.Q.

What constitutes a “non-research grant”?

By non-research grants, we mean grants that are not primarily based in academic research. Non-research grants may include community-engaged projects, artist residencies or fellowships, or work-integrated-learning and wage subsidy programs.

Do I need to be applying for a grant to attend this workshop?

No, you do not need to be applying for a grant to attend these workshops. If you are applying for a grant and would be interested in a peer workshop, please contact us.

Will the workshop cover “___”?

Ask us! We welcome you to suggest ahead of time grants you are interested in applying to or topics you would like to see covered. We generally focus on grants that are eligible for Arts graduate students, meaning we will not cover grants directed at faculty, businesses, or other large organizations.

Will you offer feedback on my application?

We encourage you to come prepared with any questions relevant to the workshop’s topic, especially if you are currently working on a grant application. All Arts students and post-docs are welcome to meet with our grants editor by booking a 1:1 drop-in consultation.
