The Racial Equity Screen Office (RESO) is a Vancouver-based national office. Driven by the foundational work of the Vancouver Asian Film festival for the past 25 years, RESO supports the mentorship, training, funding, production, and distribution of works by racialized Canadian filmmakers.  We support diverse stories, told through our diasporic migrant lens. Our goal is to create greater business opportunities for racialized filmmakers and broaden markets for content from racialized communities both within and outside of Canada. RESO is seeking 6 Arts graduate students to work with them on a research-based project. This project will gather quantitative and qualitative information about Canada’s screen-based industry.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Identifying current challenges and opportunities for exporting content created by diverse filmmakers
  • Benchmarking best practices that have worked outside of the government funding models
  • Examining market trends and opportunities, distribution model(s) and the impact of digital streaming platforms on the demand for diasporic content
  • Creating a website to host and share the information
  • Data Analysis
  • Recommendations, including policy changes and further research if needed
  • Drafting a Final Report

Desired skills for this position include:

  • Ability to develop and conduct Community engagement to gather information and data
  • Ability to analyze data and compile it in a report for a broader audience
  • Ability to develop interview structures for gathering information and to host roundtable discussions
  • Survey development skills
  • Research existing best practices in industry
  • Analysis experience of Canadian export and/or co-productions of screen industry projects, finances, business structures and business compositions

This paid internship is open to:

  • Masters or PhD students or postdoctoral fellows (students on leave are not eligible).
  • International Students are eligible for this opportunity.
