Work individually or with a team to conceive, research, design, and prototype a startup, agency, venture, project, product, or service, to kick-start running your own initiative, business or not-for-profit society.
This group-based training program is brought to you in collaboration with entrepreneurship@UBC. For more information, please read the Amplify Your Product or Service info page.
There is no cost to participating and registration is limited to 16 participants. For Faculty of Arts grad students and postdocs who complete the training, we’ll give you $500 that you can put towards start-up costs like registering your business or setting up a website. For most students, this stipend will be paid in Summer 2023 through your UBC student financial account.
This is an eight-month commitment in two parts. Part one is the January semester, during which synchronous workshops will take place; see the Amplify Your Product or Service info page for more information about the content of each workshop:
- Workshop 1: Thursday January 26, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- Workshop 2: Thursday February 16, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- Workshop 3: Thursday March 9, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- Capstone Presentations: Thursday April 27, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Additional required meetings:
- 3 x 15-minute meetings with the Arts alumni entrepreneur-in-residence (weeks of Jan 30, Feb 27, and Mar 20)
- 1 x 15-minute capstone presentation practice session (week of Apr 3 or Apr 10)
Part 2 takes place during the summer semester, on your schedule, and one-on-one with your mentor:
- 4 x 30-minute meetings with your selected mentor (May through August)
If you successfully complete the training, presentation, and summer mentorship, we’ll deposit $500 into your UBC financial account. You’re free to dedicate this funding to your own priorities; we recommend but don’t require that you use it to start up your venture.
Deadline to apply for Amplify Your Product or Service is Monday, January 23rd.
