This program brings together a small group of UBC Arts graduate students and postdocs to explore diverse career possibilities and learn strategies to chart a personally meaningful course as a professional. Over two days, you’ll use a combination of self-assessment tools and interactive exercises to better understand your professional ambitions in relation to your personal values and aspirations; you’ll meet folks with graduate degrees working in a variety of professional contexts on and off campus; and you’ll practice the skills you’ll need to conduct a successful non-academic job search.
Those who complete the two-day studio will:
- Gain a better understanding of a range of meaningful career options for Arts grad students beyond tenure track teaching
- Learn how to explore career possibilities using a design thinking framework that emphasizes personal exploration and experimentation
- Practice strategies and engage with materials necessary to apply for jobs
- Build a sense of sense of connection and camaraderie among graduate students across the Faculty of Arts interested in exploring their career options
- Connect with networks on campus related to career exploration
